John Daniel Earnest Johnson, 47, of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed from this life March 25, 2018, in Duncan. He was born February 23, 1971, in Waurika, Oklahoma, to Sid and Jeannie Johnson. He married Brenda Joy Harris on July 26, 1993, in Waurika, Oklahoma. He was a cook at the High Chapparal. He loved to cook and was a member of the Cross Brand Cowboy Church in Waurika.

John was preceded in death by his parents Sid and Jeannie Johnson and his sister Brenda Cleo Johnson.

Survivors include: his wife Brenda Johnson, of the home in Duncan, OK; his “daughter” that he raised – Keylee Switzer; two brothers – Eli (Joey Johnson) Charmasson of Ryan, OK, and Marvin L. Johnson and his wife Cheryl of Meridian, OK; his sister Diann and her husband Jimmy Prater of Marlow, OK; his close cousin – Randy Lee Sartin (Hood); and several nieces, nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 29, at the Cross Brand Cowboy Church in Waurika with Bob Waitman officiating. Visitation was Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika. Pallbearers were the nephews.

Age: 79

Annie Rose (Perry) Peel, 79 of Waurika Oklahoma passed away April 20, 2018 after prolonged illnesses. 

Annie was born June 20, 1938 in Fleetwood Oklahoma to John and Nadine Perry. 

She went to school in Irving Oklahoma and later graduated from Ryan High School. 

Through her years she worked at numerous places. She served as Commissioner for Waurika Housing Authority. She was a Superintendent for Wharton Assembly of God Church in Wharton Texas. She received her Missionary Certificate at Saint Joseph Indian School in Mexico. She was a Dormitory Supervisor at Wharton County Junior College. 

Her passion through her years were cooking, baking, and entertaining! She loved to travel! She loved sewing and crocheting!

Annie was preceded in death by her late Husband Clyde Earl Peel. Also her Parents John and Nadine Perry. As well as her two Brothers James Earl Perry and Jimmy Perry. 

Left to cherish her memory is her Sister Bettie Perry Armstrong of Troup Texas. Her Brother John Perry of Wharton Texas. Her Brother Arthur Perry of Petrolia Texas. Her Sister Flossie Perry James of Lindale Texas. Her Sister Gaylene Perry of Waurika Oklahoma. Her Sister Debbie Perry Shoefstall of Custer City Oklahoma.

Annie has numerous Cousins, Nieces and Nephews, as well as Great Nieces and Great Nephews. 

Annie was loved by so many and she will be forever missed!

Annie was indeed a great sister, aunt and friend!

A Memorial Service for Annie will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Ryan Assembly of God Church in Ryan Oklahoma.

Age: 75

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS – Robbie Sue Overstreet passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018 surrounded by her family, at the age of 75.

Graveside service: 1 p.m. Wednesday April 18, in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Robbie was born on Nov. 22, 1942 to Jim and Daisy Stanford in Waurika, Okla.  She was the youngest of six children.  Robbie married James Overstreet in 1964 and they had two daughters, which she adored.  Her greatest pride were her four grandchildren.  Robbie spent over twenty years in the banking industry before she retired.  

She enjoyed studying Genealogy and visiting historical sites.  She will be deeply missed by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister.

Survivors:  Her loving husband of 54 years;  daughters, Christi Hudson of Fort Worth, Rebecca and husband, Monty Hukill of Southlake; sister, Margueriette Willison of Lancaster; special niece, Susan and Dan Price of Forney; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Hannah Hudson, Garrett and Reagan Hukill; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Billie Jean Johnson

Age: 90

Long-time resident of the Irving Community of Jefferson County, Oklahoma, Billie Jean Johnson died Monday, April 23, 2018 in her home at the age of 90 years. She was born January 10, 1928, in Ryan, Oklahoma, to Jack and Daisy (Cook) Fuller.

Billie and Roe Johnson were married February 24, 1945. Their marriage lasted 72 years and 11 months. Roe and Billie farmed and raised four children. They taught them to work hard and love the Lord by reading the Bible daily and taking them regularly to the Irving Baptist Church. Roe and Billie supported their children in their school sports, music, church, and 4-H activities. She promoted honesty, integrity, reassurance, and a strong work ethic to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren -by whom she will be sorely missed.

Survivors include her children: Tom Johnson and wife Cheri, Don Johnson and wife Gayle, Peggy Fontaine Bates and husband Mike, Sheila Traynham and husband Joe. Grandchildren: Jeffrey Johnson, Jonathan Johnson, Jared Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Stacy Traynham Merritt, Jodi Traynham Johnson, Jennifer Johnson Wade, Jeremiah Johnson and Conrad Fontaine. Great-Grandchildren: Jared R. Johnson, Jr., Megan Wade, Hannah Wade, Lauren Wade, Jenna Wade, Whitney Wade, Rachel Watson, Max Merritt, Sammy Merritt, Annie Merritt, Braden Johnson, Abbe’ Johnson, Josiah Johnson, Sawyer Johnson, Libby Johnson, Kennedy Johnson, Roe Johnson and Leah Johnson. Siblings: Wanda Lou Long, Mary Jo Uland, and Charles Fuller.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roe, and her parents and siblings Raymond Fuller, Faye Martindale, Inez Brink, Weldon Fuller, Harral Fuller, Darrel Fuller, and Margie Smith.

Billie enjoyed visiting with family and friends, cooking and quilting. She was active in the local Home Extension Club and all the church’s activities. She will be remembered and missed by her many family members and friends, but they can be comforted by the fact that she is catching up on old times with all of those who have gone before, and is basking in the Glory of God.

A celebration of her life will be at 11:30 AM, Thursday, April 26, 2018, at the Irving Baptist Church with Bro. Billy Rhone and Bro. Mike Bates officiating. Burial will be before the service, at 10:00 AM at the Ryan Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome. Grandchildren will serve as Pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Ryan. Memorial gifts may be made to the Irving Baptist Church, 17017 N 2770 Rd., Ryan, OK 73565. Glenna Margaret Christian

Funeral services for Glenna Margaret Christian, 86, were at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 23, in the Centennial Chapel of the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Tolbert officiating.  Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

The daughter of the late Glen and Florence Walls Edwards, Glenna was born July 5, 1932, in Waurika, Oklahoma and went to be with her Lord and Savior October 20, 2018, surrounded by her family.

A graduate of Waurika High School, she and Vernon Dean Christian were married February 11, 1952, in Wichita Falls, Texas and he preceded her death on August 2, 2010.  Also preceding her in death were her sister Edna Keele and brother Jerry Pat Edwards.

Glenna worked for Memorial Hospital in Ardmore in medical records, and then went to KKAJ Radio and finished her career with Cablecom of Ardmore.  She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, and enjoyed the outdoors and gardening.

Glenna is survived by her children, Karen Stowe and husband Richard “Dicky” of Tahlequah; Vernon “Duane” Christian and wife Terry  and Deana Mendenall and husband Alan all of Ardmore; her grandchildren, Kari Hill and Husband Eric of Pryor; Jessika McKaskle and husband Jordy, Carl Junction, MO; Kyle Christian and wife Karrie of Oklahoma City; Misty Mendenall of Ardmore; and Chris Mendenall and wife Josie of Durant; great-grandchildren; MaKenzie  and Zane Hill; Piper and Haddon McKaskle; Sam, Max and Landri Mendenall and Kinsley and Kooper Christian.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be made in Glenna’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, Cross Timbers Hospice or Trinity Baptist Church.

Bennie Lee Padgett (89) was born October 1, 1928 to Leo and Hazel (Seeley) Padgett in Westcliffe, Colorado and passed from this life January 30, 2018 in Waurika, Oklahoma.

​After high school graduation, Bennie joined the U.S. Navy and was proud to serve aboard the USS Rupertus DD851 where he was a gunner’s mate and petty officer second class. ​He was united in marriage to Mary Ann James on December 20, 1950 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Harrah, Oklahoma. He and Mary Ann were the owners/operators of Harrah Lockers for twenty-six years where he did custom meat processing. Along with his love of playing golf, he was a great Christian man who loved his family and great-grandchildren with all of his heart. ​Even though Bennie and Mary Ann were members of St. Theresa Catholic Church, they attended the First Baptist Church in Waurika, Oklahoma where they made many friends and became part of the church’s family. Bennie is survived by his wife of sixty-six years Mary Ann Padgett of Hastings, Oklahoma.

Three daughters, Patricia and her husband Alan Conger of Tulsa, Oklahoma and their children: Allison and Leah and one great-grandchild, Trip Bendell.  Tamara and her husband Jeff Tabor of Choctaw, Oklahoma and their children: Michelle and her husband Jared Dyer, Katie and her husband Lance Coker, Cheyenne Owens and his wife Tara, Rebecca and her husband Adam Wilson and great-grand children, Ace and Jet Dyer, Marshall, Josie, and Lexie Owens and Marena Wilson. ​Pamela Padgett of Co. Springs, CO. ​ One brother, Lonnie Padgett of Colorado Springs, CO. and one sister, Lavada Stelter of Colorado Springs, CO ​One niece, Debra and her husband Rob Cheschier, and two nephews, Thomas Yeoman and his wife Teresa, Ken Yeoman and his wife Sherree.

Roger Dale Howard

After a courageous battle with cancer, Roger Dale Howard died on November 4, 2018, in Waurika, OK at the age of 51. He leaves behind a son, Clayton Howard of Duncan, OK and longtime companion June Miller. 

Roger was Born on January 18, 1967, in Riverside, CA to father Elmer Howard and mother Jenna Lee Howard. He grew up in a large family with 6 sisters and 1 brother.

Roger is survived by his son Clayton Howard, and a grandson Daegen Burton. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Morris and husband James of Comanche, OK; Lawanda Ford and husband Michael of Waurika, OK; Donna McCarty of Waurika, OK and Sheena shipley of CA. He is survived by one brother John Howard and wife Ovsanna, of Comanche, OK. Roger is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins that were very special to him. He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Linda Wilkerson and Wenda Howard, and 3 infant brothers. He is also preceded in death by his son, Christopher Burton and daughter Kaylie Howard.

Roger requested to be cremated. A memorial service will be decided at a later date. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Westbrook Care Center and the nursing staff at Aspire Hospice for their care.

Donna Ree Slate

December 18, 1957 – February 4, 2018

Age: 60

Our beautiful and talented mother, daughter, sister, and friend went to be with Jesus Sunday morning February 4, 2018.

Donna Ree Slate was born December 18, 1957, in Corpus Christi, TX, to Ella Ree and Glen Alfred Martin. She married John Stanley Turner in 1975, and to that union was born John Robert Turner and Amy Ree Turner. She later married Billy Coy Slate and they had Jess Alan Slate.

Most of her life, Donna lived in or near Duncan, OK. She was a woman with a compassionate heart and was very involved in the formation and opening of the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Duncan. She worked there many years helping young women make difficult decisions. She many times went to schools and gatherings to talk to young people about these issues. Donna loved to draw and she could put words on paper and create a beautiful story. She leaves behind many of these offerings for us to enjoy.

Donna was preceded in death by her father, Glen Martin and her first husband Stanley Turner.

She is survived by her children John Robert Turner and his wife Alicia of Whitewright, TX, Amy Ree Owen and her husband Tony of Nocona, TX, and Jess Alan Slate of Duncan, OK, her mother Ella Ree Friend of Addington, OK, sisters Susan Leigh Lee of Duncan, OK, and Sally Jane Estrada of Electra, TX, and her brother Phil Martin of Patison, TX. She is also survived by her ex-husband Bill Slate and her grandchildren Abby, Anna, Ava, Allison, Michael, McKenna, Michaela, and Jaxon.

Funeral services for Donna will be at 1:00 PM, Friday, February 9, 2018, at the Addington Baptist Church in Addington, Oklahoma with Jason Ebenhack officiating. Pallbearers will be family members. Burial will be in the Addington Cemetery under direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Visitation will be Thursday from noon to 6:00 PM and Friday morning at the Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika. Age: 60

James Michel, 60, of Roland, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 in Fort Smith, Ark.  He was born February 26, 1958 in St. Marys, Pa., to the late John and Essie Michel.  He was a carpenter, and attended Butterfield Assembly of God Church in Van Buren, Ark.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Collins and Rose Marie Michel; and two brothers, Tim and Donnie Michel.

 He is survived by his wife, Diana Michel of the home; his step mother Frances Michel of Waurika; his god-mother Rose Belsole of St. Mary’s, PA; his mother-in-law Lucille Goforth of Van Buren, Arkansas; his daughter Crystal Box of Van Buren, Ark.; two sons, Aaron Michel of Alma, Ark., and Brian Oder and wife Brandi of Checotah; a sister, Mary Burden and husband Ted of Wilson; five brothers, John Michel and wife Betsy of Maypearl, Texas, Tom Michel and wife Jamie of Comanche, Leo Michel and wife Kandi of Holliday, Texas, Bill Michel and wife Diana of Comanche, and Bob Michel of Waurika; three grandchildren; and two furbabies, Jake and Precious.

 Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, Ark.   A memorial service will be held at a later date.

 Family-hosted memorial will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Butterfield Assembly of God Church in Van Buren.  Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.

Doris Ann (Anthony) Pilgreen

Doris Ann (Anthony) Pilgreen,77, went to be with her Heavenly Father on October 3rd, 2018. She was born May 11, 1941. She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister and aunt. Doris will be forever remembered by her family and precious children, Christy, Debra, and Tammie , and her mother Ethel Anthony, and her brother Wayne Anthony. Doris was the Jefferson County Clerk for 28 years and a member of Waurika Church of the Nazarene, Board member on the Depot Committee, and once an avid quilter and champion pie baker.

Survivors include her precious mom, Ethel Anthony, her children Christy and Chuck Green of Yukon, Debra and Rene Rodriguez of Yukon, and Tammie and Pierre Rostant of Sachse, Texas, grandchildren Ryan and Amanda Mora, Ethan, Pax and Emersyn, Daniel, Skyler and Hayden Rodriguez, Sara, Lance and Hudson Hodges, Jarrett Green, and Audrie Rostant, brother Wayne and wife Regina Anthony of Waurika, her beloved niece Jennifer Carr and nephew Jeff Anthony who knew her as “Aunt Doe”. She will also be forever remembered by her numerous cousins. extended family, and dear friends

She was preceded in death by her father Glenn Anthony.

Funeral services for Doris Pilgreen were on Monday October 8,2018 at 11:00 am at the First Christian Church in Waurika, Oklahoma. Viewing was Saturday from 2-8, and Sunday 1-6 with the family receiving visitors from 1-3 at Dudley Funeral Home. A burial followed at the Waurika Cemetery in care of Dudley Funeral Home.
