Thelton Cread “ Bud” 

Burger, 83 of Duncan, 

Oklahoma passed away 

Monday, February 4, 2019.

Funeral services will be at 10am Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Duncan, OK, with the Rev. Dr. Janice  Sharp officiating, assisted by the Rev. Kathy Gibson. 

 Interment will follow at Duncan Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.

The family will visit with friends at the funeral home Thursday Feb. 7 from 5-7pm.

Bud was born May 31, 1935, in Waurika Oklahoma to Doris (Wright) and William Cread Burger.  He graduated from Waurika High School in 1953 and was a proud member of the 1951 state champion football team.  He attended the University of Oklahoma and played semi-pro baseball before moving to Duncan to work for Halliburton Services.  Not too many years later, he went in with his good friend Clyde Edwards to open Edwards Home Furnishings. In 1974, he married Martha Lindley in Duncan where they made their home. Bud was a great salesman.  Over his life he sold insurance, cars, siding, and medical equipment until his retirement in 2000.  For 20 years Bud broadcast Duncan Demon football on the radio and in 2017 he was inducted into the Duncan Sports Hall of Fame.

Bud enjoyed life. He had a gift for building people up and was good at lightening up the mood with a joke or story to fit any situation.  He was kind to everyone and always looked on the bright side. He loved his family and friends and always let them know it. 

Bud believed in the power of prayer and always said that anyone looking at the grandeur of the mountains in Alaska or the vastness to the order of the universe had to know that this was no accident, but was the work of the Creator.

Bud loved being son to Doris and Cread, brother to May Nell, Dad to Jennifer and Jaynelle, husband to Martha (who he loved unconditionally for 44 plus years), and friend to too many to name.

Survivors include his wife Martha Burger, of the home; daughters Jennifer Burger Snodgrass of Alexandria VA, and Jaynelle Burger Schamber and husband Gary of Stevenson Ranch, CA; his sister May Nell Walker of Waurika OK; grandchildren Steven Snodgrass and wife Courtney, Carlye Snodgrass, and Christopher Schamber; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Raelyn Snodgrass.  Bud is also survived by nieces Pat Robinson and Jill Bates, and a nephew John Cread Walling. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Cread Burger; and a brother-in-law Kenneth Walker.   

Pallbearers will be: Leonard Case, David Dowell, George Lindley, Hal Pennington, Christopher Schamber and Steven Snodgrass.  Honorary Bearers are: Bill Cobb, Jerry T. Davis, Ken Graham, Don Howland, Dr. Jimmy Jones, Phil Leonard, Joe Litsch, Bill Randolf and Dr. Bob Schick.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the American Cancer Society High Plains Division Oklahoma City; the Stephens County Humane Society; Duncan Regional Hospital Health Foundation or The Simmons Center Foundation.

Raymond Leon Hunt

Raymond Leon Hunt, 71, of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed from this life March 21, 2019. He was born April 22, 1947, in Ryan, Oklahoma, to Lawrence and Wauneta (Dodd) Hunt. He was married to Betty Joy Jackson November 13, 1969, in Bowie, Texas. He served in the United States Army in Viet Nam in 1968 and 1969. He worked as a truck driver. He loved playing dominoes, Thunder basketball and watching his grandson play basketball and his granddaughter play softball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jim Citrowske, his brother Virgil Hunt, and his sister Cleta Morgan.

He is survived by: his wife Betty, of the home; his children Skeeter Citrowske and his wife Tereasa, Connie Citrowske, and Stefan Hunt and his wife Patti; his sister FayNell Stone; his grandchildren – Destanie and Santanna Mata, Lila, Kimberly and Jeff Citrowske and Austin and Preslee Hunt; two great-grandchildren – Kyan and Demi Kalenkoot; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 12:30 PM, Monday, March 25, 2019, at the Ryan Cemetery in Ryan, Oklahoma with Curtis Plant officiating. Burial was under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Ryan. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors.

Joe Qualls

Age: 86

Joe Qualls, beloved brother and uncle passed from this life November 12, 2022 at the age of 86. He was born February 22, 1936 to Raymer and Leola Qualls in the Irving Community outside of Waurika, Oklahoma. Joe was fourth in line to 5 siblings: Wanda, Mildred, Jerry, Charlene and Rosa. He attended school in Waurika and remained friends with his childhood running buddy, Steve Fulton until his death. As an adult, Joe loved to work with his hands and design things making fiber glass his choice of media. He spent many years between Oklahoma and Florida making fiber glass tubs and showers for Marriott Hotels. He also enjoyed designing fiber glass boats. He loved to fish in his younger years and was always willing to have a beer with a friend. Joe never had children of his own, but he is remembered by many nieces and nephews. Joe loved watching football and was a devout OU and Cowboy fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Wanda and husband Pete; brother Jerry and wife Beulah; sister Charlene and husband Ed. Joe is survived by sister Mill Barfield with husband George of Andrews, TX; sister Rosa Keethler of Wichita Falls, TX and many nieces and nephews scattered over the Texhoma region.

Jerry Glen Ball

September 10, 1952 – November 21, 2022

Age: 70

Jerry Glen Ball, age 70, a resident of Wichita Falls, TX passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022.  A memorial service was held on Wednesday, November 30th at 1:00 p.m. at the Ryan Cemetery, under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home.

 Jerry was born September 10, 1952 in Ryan, OK to Lois D. and Roberta (Cleveland) Ball.  After his graduation he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his two children: Jerry Glen Ball, and Sandra Ball, both of Germany;  two brothers: David Charles Ball and wife Bonnie, Nocona, TX, and Dorman Ray Ball, Thomas, OK; five sisters: Shirley Jean Oschner and husband Robert, Denver, CO, Margaret June Bonhom, Bowie, TX, Sandra May Belew and husband Harold, Decatur, TX, Brenda Harless, Azle, TX, and Norma Fay Walker and husband Steve, Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Michael C. Dyer, 63, of Waurika, Oklahoma, passed from this life May 17, 2018, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was born January 16, 1955, in Waurika,Oklahoma, to A.C. and Bobby Sue (Tate) Dyer. He was a 1972 graduate of Ryan High School. He and Joanna Schaffner were married February 17, 1975 in Dean, Texas. He was a farmer/rancher and worked for Halliburton for eighteen years. He was a member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association and the First Baptist Church in Waurika. His passion was being outside with his animals and crops. He loved his family and enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, camping, and spending time with his grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Shirley Thomasson.

Survivors include: his wife Joanna; his children Jared Dyer and wife Michelle, and Karen Wright and husband Lonnie; grandchildren Taylir Wright, Haley Wright, Jacob C. Wright, Ace Lee Dyer, and Jet Michael Dyer; his sister Diane York; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday, May 20, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Waurika, Oklahoma with Mark Kunkel and Bruce Humphries officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika with family receiving guests from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Eddy Joe Reese

Eddy Joe Reese, 54, of Waurika Lake, Oklahoma, passed from this life July 16, 2019. He was born December 8, 1964, in Henrietta, Texas, to E.J. and Annelise Reese. When he was about eight years old he would go with his mother when she cleaned the grain elevator. She looked up one day to find him coming around the corner in the grain truck, seated on the lap of Robert “Goober” Estes. He married Nanon Boswell June 8, 1984, in Byers, Texas. They were high school sweethearts, dating for five years before they married. They had a special bond and were soulmates, creating many memories over the forty years they were together. Over the years he drove trucks for Parker Mayo – hauling feed, Berend Brothers – eggs, Central Freight – P & D Driver, Mangum Oil and Gas – delivering propane, David England Construction – hauling rock, Denny Cothren – hauling asphalt, and W W Construction and when the oppportunity arose he was accompanied by Nan, his “right hand.” He was owner of the Waurika Lake Marina with his wife Nanon for nineteen years.

Eddy grew up in Byers, Texas and moved to Waurika, Oklahoma in 2000, after purchasing the Waurika Lake Marina. He graduated from Byers High School in 1983. In high school he played basketball and was a star greenhand and a star chapter greenhand in FFA and had a lone star farmer degree. He won the Dekalb Award and “Best All Around Boy” in his senior year. He was a Methodist. While living in Byers he served on the City Council as Mayor pro tem and was a volunteer fireman. He watched and loved football and going out to eat. He enjoyed visiting and working over the phone. He enjoyed fishing and took pride in trucking. He took care of his family and business. He had a very kind heart and loved spending time with Nan and Jemma.

He was preceded in death by his parents E.J. and Ann Reese, his brother Harold Reese, his sister Becky Reese and his father-in-law Freddy Boswell.

Survivors include: his wife of thirty-five years Nanon (Boswell) Reese, of the home in Waurika Lake, OK, furbaby Jemma Jewel; sisters Jeannie and her husband Ken Burris of Byers, TX; mother-in-law Shirley Boswell of Waurika Lake, OK; sisters-in-law Lorrie and her husband Quint Hague of Wichita Falls, TX, and Kimmie and her husband Bobbie Truver of New York; nieces Chelby and her husband Jordan Goad of Duncan, OK, Angela and her husband Randy Long of Byers, TX, and Joanie Truver of New York; nephews Rowdy Clayton and his wife Katie of Iowa Park, TX, Kevin Burris of Byers, TX, Jason Fincher of New York; and great nephew Chance Long of Byers, TX.

A Celebration of Life will was held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 20, 2019, at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika, with Jim Doan officiating. Memorials may be made to the Jim Thorpe Rehab in Oklahoma in southwestern Oklahoma City.

Thomas Jefferson Craft

Thomas Jefferson Craft, of Corpus Christi TX passed away on September 22, 2018. He was born Dec.13, 1929 in Fleetwood Oklahoma. We have lost one of the wisest and kindest people that we’ve ever known.  He had quite a sense of humor, and was never above pulling someone’s leg to get them to smile and laugh.

 Tom graduated from Terral High School and went on to serve in the military as a Sergeant in the Korean War.  After the war, he returned to his beloved Oklahoma to attend Oklahoma State University and graduated in 1957 with a degree in agriculture.   

 Tom met his wife, Iris while attending Oklahoma State, and from there the adventures began.  In their early years, they lived in Oklahoma, Nebraska and Pennsylvania.  Later, they settled in Arizona and stayed there until retirement. While in Arizona, Tom worked for the Bureau of Land Management, and mapped almost the entire state for the government. 

He loved to garden, and could make anything grow, even with the most challenging of soil.  His Jalapeno Peppers were always something to contend with, not to mention the beautiful tomatoes that he would grow year round.   They finally moved to Bowie TX, where they spent many happy years together in retirement.

 Tom loved to golf in later years, and could outshoot his daughters and son on the course, which always gave them a big laugh.  He spent his spare time making jelly and jam out of the many fruits that were grown in his backyard. His peach and strawberry jam was something everyone looked forward to.  He was a 3rd Degree Mason with the Bowie Mason lodge and active in the Methodist Church.

 Tom was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

 He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, brothers and his beloved wife Iris. He is survived by his three children; daughters Susan (John) Giesing, Amy Craft and son, Jeff Craft all of Corpus Christi TX, sister Helen Gunter of Terral Ok.  5 grandchildren Felicia Lasso, Alexandra Lasso, Jeremy Lasso, Declan Craft, Augustin Craft, and 2 great grandchildren, Bentley Lasso, Arisa Lasso, along with his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 Visitation will be held at the Terral OK at the Terral Funeral Home on Thursday from 5pm – 7pm. Funeral services will be graveside at the Terral cemetery in Terral OK on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10:00 am.

Sam Glen Overstreet

On October 22, 2018, we lost an incredible father and friend Sammy Glen Overstreet.  Sam was survived by his wife Judy Overstreet, his youngest son Trent Overstreet, brother Jimmy Overstreet, sister-in-law Donna Givens, brother in law Rob Givens, mother in law Betty Tindol, four grandchildren Brandon, Christine, Brady and Robert Overstreet, five nieces and nephew Rebecca, Christi, Julie, Joey and Jaclyn.  Sam was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey Overstreet, father Paul Overstreet, mother Frankie Overstreet and father-in-law Robert Tindol.  He lived his life fully always putting family and friends first above himself.  He was an amazing husband, father, and friend anyone could ever wish for.  Even though his battle with cancer, he never lost sight of his family and friends.  You could always see him supporting the community or lifting our spirits as he traveled through town stopping to listen and laugh within his hometown of Ryan.  He will be missed beyond belief and we were all blessed to have him bless our lives with his life.  The family welcomes anyone who wishes to attend the memorial service on Saturday, October 27th at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church at 1002 Washington St Ryan, OK 73565. Faye Etheridge

Faye Etheridge, at the age of 75, went to be with her Lord on October 17, 2018. Faye was born June 2, 1943, in Terral, Oklahoma, to Ranzie Williams and Gertie Pink (Maness) Williams. She married Robert Wayne Etheridge on October 2, 1965, and together they had four children. Faye worked 24 years at Doug’s Peach Orchard in Terral, where she enjoyed many long-time friends and truly never met a stranger. She enjoyed spending time with her twin sister Maye Ward, shopping and doing a word find puzzles.

Faye was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God Church in Ryan, and most recently of the Faith Fellowship of Waurika. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Buster Williams, Steven Williams, Lloyd Williams and Jewell Williams and her sisters Billie Williams and Janice Owen.

She is survived by her twin sister Maye Ward of Waurika, her children Larry (Vicki) Etheridge, Stacy (Don) Dalton, Kenneth Etheridge and Kimberly (Curtis) Plant, all of Waurika, seven grandchildren, Kyle (Keri) Etheridge, Brett Etheridge, Travis Etheridge, Zach Dalton, Brandon Dalton, Lauren (Jason) Hobbs and Tyler Plant, and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the First Assembly of God Church in Ryan, with Curtis Plant and Lynn Plant officiating. Interment will follow the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Viewing was Thursday, October 18 and Friday, October 19, noon to 8 p.m. at Dudley Funeral Home, Waurika, with family receiving guests from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday.

Memorials: First Assembly of God Church in Ryan and Chisolm Trail Hospice.

Lois Faye Phillips

Lois Faye Phillips, 84, long-time resident of Ryan died Monday, September 10, 2018 at Westbrook Healthcare Nursing Home  in Waurika.  Lois was born April 8, 1934, in Grady, Oklahoma to Lewis and Audrey (Mitchell) Woods.  

She married William Paul ‘Bill’ Phillips September 10, 1949, in Montague, Texas and they spent most of their married life in Ryan.  He preceded her in death in 1977. She worked at the Peach Orchard in Terral and as a cook at Jefferson County Hospital for many years. 

Lois loved to cook and she probably fed every person in Ryan at one time or another.  She always made sure there was a table full of food and a houseful of family and friends to share it with.  When she moved to the nursing home she carried that tradition by offering her snacks to all who entered her room.   In addition to her grandkids, through the years Lois took many Ryan kids under her wing and became ‘Granny Lois’ to them. She was a caring, generous lady and also one who didn’t mind sharing her thoughts and opinions. Lois had a big heart and loved her kids and grandkids immensely.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Joe and Linda of Waurika, Rick and Robin of Ryan; sisters Joyce Bratcher and the late L. G. of Rush Springs, Sue Reed and David of Henrietta, Texas and Larry Ward and Becky of Duncan. 

Her grandchildren are Jason Phillips and wife Amanda of Ryan, Mitchell Phillips and wife Elizabeth of Meridian, Rebel Burkhalter and husband Josh of Cache, Cheryl Carter and husband John of Ryan; great-grandchildren Kristan and Gunner Phillips, Hope and Juhriee Berryhill, Destiny and Dylan Harris, William Paul Phillips, Grant, Holland and Libby Carter, and Luke, Axle and Bo Burkhalter; and great-great-grandchildren, Jaylee and Jace Berryhill.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Toby Joe Phillips, and two brothers, Dale Ward and Jim Woods.

A graveside service will be held at the Ryan Cemetery Saturday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m.
