Joyce Faye Walker, 91, of Marlow, Oklahoma, passed from this life April 3, 2018. She was born June 10, 1926, in Ringling, Oklahoma, to Lewis Wilson and Martha Rosetta “Rosie” (Brooks) Brown. She married C.A. Walker on December 13, 1941, in Loveland, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker but worked for a time as a dorm mother at MSU and OSU and also worked for the State Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club in Waurika.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waurika, Oklahoma until she moved to Marlow and joined New Hope West Church in Duncan, Oklahoma. She enjoyed reading and sewing.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Richard Walker, and eight brothers and sisters – Carl Brown, Granvel Brown, Vera Gray, Haskel Brown, Mabel Ennis, J. T. Brown, Harold Brown, and Wendell Brown.

Survivors include: her children – Kenneth Walker and his wife Maynell of Waurika, OK, Karen Vanacor of The Woodlands, Texas, Diana Waddle of Harvey, LA, Deborah and her husband Tim Lillard of O’Fallon, IL; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 8, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Waurika with Bruce Humphries officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Visitation was from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Saturday, at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to organizations which support research into macular degeneration and/or osteoporosis.

Age: 60

James Michel, 60, of Roland, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 in Fort Smith, Ark.  He was born February 26, 1958 in St. Marys, Pa., to the late John and Essie Michel.  He was a carpenter, and attended Butterfield Assembly of God Church in Van Buren, Ark.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Collins and Rose Marie Michel; and two brothers, Tim and Donnie Michel.

 He is survived by his wife, Diana Michel of the home; his step mother Frances Michel of Waurika; his god-mother Rose Belsole of St. Mary’s, PA; his mother-in-law Lucille Goforth of Van Buren, Arkansas; his daughter Crystal Box of Van Buren, Ark.; two sons, Aaron Michel of Alma, Ark., and Brian Oder and wife Brandi of Checotah; a sister, Mary Burden and husband Ted of Wilson; five brothers, John Michel and wife Betsy of Maypearl, Texas, Tom Michel and wife Jamie of Comanche, Leo Michel and wife Kandi of Holliday, Texas, Bill Michel and wife Diana of Comanche, and Bob Michel of Waurika; three grandchildren; and two furbabies, Jake and Precious.

 Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, Ark.   A memorial service will be held at a later date.

 Family-hosted memorial will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Butterfield Assembly of God Church in Van Buren.  Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.

Age: 84

Gene Elkins, at the age of 84, went to be with his Lord on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Duncan Regional Hospital, in Duncan, Oklahoma. Funeral Services were held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Waurika, Oklahoma, with Pastor Mike McCord of Ray of Hope church and Jason Ebenhack of Addington Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika, Oklahoma.

Gene was born September 29, 1933, in Sugden, Oklahoma, to Carey and Eugie Elkins. He graduated from Waurika High School in 1952. A highlight of his Waurika school days was getting to play on the 1951 State Champion’s football team. In 1953 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country for 4 years. On October 18, 1957, he married the love of his life, Bess Phelps and God blessed them with 2 children, Jim and Lori. He was employed by Koch Oil Company and Halliburton Services as an electrician for 30 years before retiring in 1999.

Gene surrendered his life to his Lord, Jesus Christ, at the age of 25. He always said God took an imperfect man and showed him a perfect Savior. He loved Christ and His church. His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the focus of his life. His desire was that each would know his Savior and become the person God wanted them to be. He was happy and most blessed when his family was happy and close to the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carey and Eugie Elkins; a brother, Charles Elkins; and sister-in-law, Delores Kennedy Elkins.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bess Phelps Elkins, a son, Jim Elkins and wife, Betty, of Waurika, Oklahoma; a daughter, Lori Wilsford and husband, Tod, of Moore, Oklahpoma; grandchildren, Lacey Grantham and husband, Ryan, of Duncan, Oklahoma; Blake Biffle and wife, Rachelle, of Comanche, Oklahoma; Brett Elkins and wife, Maria, of Duncan, Oklahoma; and Brittany Elkins of Duncan, Oklahoma; great grandchildren, J’cie Bella Provenzano and Rylan Grace Grantham of Duncan, Oklahoma; and Kaylie, Ross and Kelsey Autrey of Comanche, Oklahoma; a brother, Wayne and wife, Carla, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing was Tuesday, April 3, 2018, Noon to 8:00 PM with the family visiting with family and friends from 6:00 – 7:00 PM at Dudley Funeral Home, Waurika, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to the church of your choice to help spread the Good News of Christ.

John Daniel Earnest Johnson, 47, of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed from this life March 25, 2018, in Duncan. He was born February 23, 1971, in Waurika, Oklahoma, to Sid and Jeannie Johnson. He married Brenda Joy Harris on July 26, 1993, in Waurika, Oklahoma. He was a cook at the High Chapparal. He loved to cook and was a member of the Cross Brand Cowboy Church in Waurika.

John was preceded in death by his parents Sid and Jeannie Johnson and his sister Brenda Cleo Johnson.

Survivors include: his wife Brenda Johnson, of the home in Duncan, OK; his “daughter” that he raised – Keylee Switzer; two brothers – Eli (Joey Johnson) Charmasson of Ryan, OK, and Marvin L. Johnson and his wife Cheryl of Meridian, OK; his sister Diann and her husband Jimmy Prater of Marlow, OK; his close cousin – Randy Lee Sartin (Hood); and several nieces, nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 29, at the Cross Brand Cowboy Church in Waurika with Bob Waitman officiating. Visitation was Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika. Pallbearers were the nephews.

Louie “Sonny” Aaron Dabbs, 65, of Ryan, Oklahoma, passed from this life Thursday, March 22, 2018, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was born September 8, 1952, in Waurika, Oklahoma, to Lewie Elston and Wanda Lou (Fuller) Dabbs. He and Sherrie Webster were married April 21, 1974, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He worked in the Halliburton Shipping Department and as a farm hand for Keith Hall. He loved to fish and was devoted to his kids, grandkinds and great-grandkids. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Sonny was preceded in death by his dad Lewie Dabbs, two sisters – Linnie Dabbs and Louise Knight, and one brother – Loyd Dabbs.

Survivors include: his wife Sherrie Dabbs, of the home in Ryan, OK; his mother Wanda Long; his children – Tina Overton of Tulsa, OK, Jeffery Dabbs of Ryan, OK, and Donald Dabbs of Ryan, OK; his brothers David Dabbs of Ryan, OK, Randy Vaden of Vernon, TX, and Lewie Dabbs II of Shawnee, OK; his sisters Susie Brown of Ryan, OK, Joann Knight of Ryan, OK, Sandy Knight of Wilburton, OK, Lisa Dollons of Shawnee, OK, and Robin Dabbs of Shawnee, OK; grandchildren – Evan Clark, Wesley Clark, Alexa Clark, Katelynn Dabbs, Logan Dabbs, and Maddox Dabbs; and great-grandchild – Elliot-Rose Michelle Clark.

Graveside services was 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at the Ryan Cemetery in Ryan, Oklahoma with Ricky Phillips officiating. Services are under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Ryan. Visitation was Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Ryan. Pallbearers were Harold Burden, Chucky Johnson, Dale Ray Williams, Rowdy Knight, Kenny Brown, Richard Duncan, Dustin Bryant, and Rodney Burden.

Gertrude Ann (Payne) Waid, passed from this life March 9, 2018, in Waurika, Oklahoma. She was born January 10, 1933, on the family farm in Hastings, Oklahoma, to Elmer and Fern Payne. Gertrude and Pryor Waid were married June 8, 1956, in Waurika, Oklahoma.
Gertrude was a member of the Waurika Church of Christ. She took care of the Benevolence Building and the meals for funerals. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Painting was one of her favorite hobbies.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Charles Ray Payne.
Survivors include: Gertrude’s husband, Pryor Waid; her children, Dowd Waid, Lance Waid and his wife Sherry, Darla Barrick and her husband Jesse; her sister Cleo Williamson; her sister-in-law Donna Payne; and her beloved grandchildren Evan, Melea, Dalee, Emily, and Seth.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at the Waurika Church of Christ officiated by Noel Curington and Bob Smee.
Burial will follow in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika.

Eula Faye Tanner, age 78, a longtime resident of Terral, peacefully passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018 in Wichita Falls, TX.  A funeral service was held Tuesday, March 6th at 2:00 p.m. at the Terral Baptist Church, with Bro. Mark Kunkel officiating.  Interment followed at Terral Cemetery, under the direction of Terral Funeral Home.  The family will be receiving friends on Monday evening, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Faye was born October 12, 1939 in Nocona, TX to Newell and Helen (Roper) Weaver.  She and Royce “Sissie” Tanner were united in marriage on June 15,  1958 in Gainesville, TX. Faye worked as a clerk at the Terral Mini Mart for many years.  She was a member of the Terral Baptist Church.

Survivors include her two children: Wayne Wyler and wife Carol, Ryan, OK and Norma Dugan and husband Randell, Henrietta, TX; four grandchildren: Tanner Dugan and Monica Dugan, both of Henrietta, TX, and J.R. Wyler and Jennifer Wyler, both of Waurika, OK; three great-grandchildren: Annabelle Wyler, David Wyler, and Oate Wyler; one Brother, Willard Weaver; and other relatives and friends.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter, Joyce Mullins; and two great-grandsons.

Age: 73

David Eugene Sisson, 73, passed from this life February 21, 2018. He was born February 23, 1944, in Frederick, Oklahoma to Thomas “Pete” and Dora “Tine” (Keith) Sisson. He graduated high school in 1962, and enlisted in the United States Army. He served three years, going in as an EI and got out as a Specialist E4.

David worked for Lone Star Gas Company in Frederick from 1966 to 1991. He was transferred to Snyder, Oklahoma, and then to Waurika working as a manager from 1991 to 2004. He married Ava Jean Harnden in 1969. They had been married thirty-seven years when she passed away in 2004. They had one daughter – Marla Lovett, one granddaughter – Magen Dawn Lovett, and one great-granddaughter – Jaden Rain Talley. He was a member of the JCs, the Lions Club, the Waurika Chamber of Commerce, was a 20 year volunteer fireman and belonged to several industry communities. He lived in Waurika for forty-five years.

David was reunited with his high school sweetheart Sue Mathis. They were married in 2008. Sue has three children – Kim and her husband Chris McKittrick of Rhome, TX, Kristy Benton of Ft Worth, TX, and Terry Avery of Venus, TX. She has seven grandchildren – Stachia, Tyler, Erik, Weston, Brennon, Jake, and Josh, three gread-grandchildren – Lynlee, Gentry, and Haden, all of Ft. Worth.

Also surviving David were his bother Carlis Sisson and his wife Carolyn of Ft Worth, TX, and his sister Sharon Sisson of Duncan, OK. He also left many loving nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents “Pete” and “Tine” Sisson, and his brother Royce “Stubby” Sisson.

Funeral services for David were at 1:30 PM, Saturday, February 24, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Waurika, Oklahoma with Bruce Humphries officiating. Burial followed in the Frederick Memorial Gardens in Frederick, Oklahoma. Pallbearers were Kenneth Blevins, John Pewthers, Mike Williams, Greg Griffin, Ronnie Bohot, and Dan Brandon. Visitation was Friday at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Wichita Falls or the First Baptist Church Funeral Dinner Fund.

Ashlee Kalyn (Poage) Horton, 27, passed away on February 10, 2018 in Midland, Texas. Ashlee was born February 5, 1991, to Michael Poage and Bambi Martin, in Lawton, Oklahoma.

She leaves behind three children, Nicholas Poage, Cheyenne Horton, Mansfield Texas and Colton Utz, Wichita Falls, Texas. Ashlee is survived by brothers: Cody Poage, Carrollton, Texas, nathan Poage, Wichita Falls, Texas, Lain Poage, Comanche, Oklahoma, Johnathan and Zachary Briscoe, Grapevine, Texas. sisters: Nichole Poage, Wichita Falls, Texas, Karli Poage, Comanche, Oklahoma. Ashlee was blessed to not only have one mom, she is survived by her moms: Bambi Martin, Lubbock, Texas, Layla Provost, Wichita Falls, Texas and Jordan Poage, Comanche, Oklahoma. Stepfather: Jeff Briscoe, Grapevine, Texas, her Grandparents: Patsy and James Perry, Miami, Oklahoma, Carolyn Martin, Lubbock, Texas, Gary Pritchett, Comanche, Oklahoma, and Marietta Poage, Ryan, Oklahoma. Many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, a niece and a nephew.

Ashlee is preceded in death by her daddy, Michael Poage and Grandfathers: Jerry Poage, Ryan, Oklahoma, James Guyan Martin, Ringling, Oklahoma, and Jim Provost, Waurika, Oklahoma.

Cremation Services were provided by Sanchez Mortician Services in Midland, Texas.

A Celebration of Life Service was February 16, 2018, 10 a.m. at Cross Brand Cowboy Church in Waurika, Oklahoma. Officiating: Pastor Bob Waitman.

May 25, 1950 – February 11, 2018

Age: 67

Ricky Dwayne Duncan passed away on February 11, 2018 at Baylor T. Boone Pickens Cancer Hospital in Dallas, TX surrounded by his family.  He fought a very courageous battle with leukemia for the past 9 months.

Rick was born on May 25, 1950 to Adam Lee and Nellie Duncan at Comanche, OK.  He attended Waurika Schools and graduated in 1968.  After serving in the US Air Force for 4 years, he attended Oklahoma State University.

In 1973 he married Carol Behrens and they had 2 sons.  He was employed by Halliburton in Duncan until his department was closed.

In 1987 he married Karen Sears of Duncan and hey resided in Little Elm, TX where Rick was employed by Banc Tec until the time of his illness.

Rick was a family man and loved to talk about his kids and grandkids.  His hobbies included maintaining their beautifully landscaped yard on the lake and watching OSU Cowboy sport events. GO POKES!

He is survived by his wife Karen of the home, sons, Chantz Duncan (Leslie) of The Colons, TX, Cody Duncan ( Delayna Trusty) of Duncan, OK and Justin Schaffner (Michelle) of Little Elm, TX.

Grandchildren Loryn Schafner and Ethan Schaffner of the home, Jessamy, Cael and Cooper Duncan, Jerade, Cheyenne and Zoey Duncan, Isabella, Cassandra and Dominick Schaffner, sister Carrie Sheffield of Terral, OK, brother Gary Duncan (Sharon) of Waurika, OK and in-laws Eldon Sears (Jean) of Comanche, OK and Wanda Telford of Round Rock, TX.  H was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Velda Gaines.

His wish was to be cremated and there will be a private celebration of his life at a later date.
