Mrs. Herron- Pre-K

Addilyn Fletcher: First, Co gets the turkey out of the icebox and puts it in the oven for 6 minutes. Next, she turns on a movie for me about Hocus Pocus. Then, we eat the turkey with a fork and chicken on top. Last, I go to play and Mo goes to the couch.

Andrew Klein: First, Mom cooks noodles for 3 minutes. Next, we eat them with pizza rolls. Then, we go to Chuck-e-cheese. Last, I read a book at my house.

Aryalyn Johnson: Fist, mom puts it in the microwave for a little bit. Next, we eat it and drink chocolate milk. Then, for dessert we eat a chocolate bar and ice cream. Last, we go to bed.

Ava Fannon: first, mom puts the turkey in the big microwave for 6 minutes. Next, she cuts the turkey, but she doesn’t let me eat the bones. Then, we eat it with cherry pie. Last, we go to bed.

Draven Billy: First, mom put some salt and pepper on the turkey and adds burger patties to it. Next, she takes out the bones. Mom cooks it on the stove for a while. Then, she waits and then we eat it and for dessert I have Tiger Bites. Last, My sister and I play tag at the park.

Jayden Vasquez: First, Mom puts the turkey in the Ice box for a long time. Next, she puts it on the table. Then, we wait 1 second to eat the turkey with macaroni. Last, we put the turkey in the trash.

Jordan Alvarez: First, Mom goes to find a turkey at the farm. Next, she cooks it in the microwave for 2 seconds. Then, we eat it with skittles. Last, we go play at the park.

Kyree Rodriguez: First, mom puts the turkey in the pan on the stove for 4 minutes. Next, she puts gloves on and takes the turkey out. Then, I play and wait for my food. Last, we eat turkey with ketchup on it.

Lillian Ruiz: First, momma takes the turkey’s body out and puts salt on it. Next, she mixes cookies with it and cooks it in the oven for 40 minutes. Then, we eat the turkey with unicorn cookies. Last, we eat green with chocolate chip ice cream.

Thomas Hatter- First, momma puts seasoning on the turkey. Next, we eat it. Last, I go play outside with my dogs.

Waylon Harris: First, Nana puts the turkey in the oven for 5 minutes. Next, we all go to her house to eat it with salt. Then, we drink ice tea. No dessert, but I ate cupcakes when I. got home. Last, I played outside with nana’s dog.

Taylen Hawkins: First, mom puts the turkey in the oven for 30 minutes. Next, she puts the turkey in a pan and sets it on the kitchen table. Then, we eat it with popsicles. Last, we clean up our mess.

Hadlee Stallcup: First, pour milk in the turkey. Next, put corn and cucumbers in it. Then, put it in the oven. Last, make sure it’s tasty. 

Kayven Juperatum: First, fry. Next, toast it. Then, cook it. Last, eat it.

Lillian Schrader: First, put it in water if it is frozen. Next, cook it. Then, take it out. Last, Eat it.

Mckinsley Robertson: First, put sugar in the middle. Next, pour milk on it. Then, put a little rice. Last, put a little chicken.

Morgandee Lindsey: First, put butter on it. Next, banana in the turkey. Then, cook it. Last, eat it.

Scarlett Cornelison: First, put it in the oven. Next, let it cool off. Then, cut a piece. Last, eat it.

Julianna: First, Go buy turkey at the store. Take off plastic. Next, wait, take it out. Last, then eat. My favorite dish is mac n cheese.

Alice: First, kill it. Go to the house. Take off the feathers. Next, put it in the oven. Oven set at 7 degrees and cook for 2 minutes. Then, get out of the oven. Put it on the plate. Then get utensils. Last, eat it! Turkey and cookies are my favorite!

Zepplin: First, Go to the store, get turkey and take it out of the wrapper. Next, get a pan, put the turkey in the oven. Then, turn the oven to 5 degrees for 10 hours. Last, we eat it. Turkey and rolls with butter are my favorite.

Violet: First, go to the grocery store, cut the feathers, and head off so you don’t eat that part. Next, put salt and pepper on it, get it out. Last, eat it! Jello is my favorite to eat.

Kristoff: First, go to the store and buy a turkey. Next, take it home, 5 degree oven for 6 minutes. Then, eat it! My favorite is eating turkey.

Kasen: First, get turkey from Wal-Mart and take package off. Next, cook it at 12 degrees for 5 minutes. Then, eat it! Last, turkey is my fav.

Montana: First, go to Walm-Mart and buy one. Next, I will go and cook it at 99 degrees for 18 minutes. Then, Take it out and eat it with a knife, fork, and spoon.

Hooper: First, go kill a turkey then go home. Next, put it in the oven at 90 degrees for 9 minutes. Then, take out of the oven and eat it. Last, My favorite is the turkey!

Emerson: First, go find one behind the bushes. Then take the feathers off. Next, put the timer on 4 o’clock. Then, take it out and eat. Last, my favorite thing is the turkey.

Shaelie: First go to Wal-Mart get turkey. Next, Take to my house and put oven on 25 degrees and cook it for 26 hours. Then, wait until done then eat it. Last, my favorite thing is turkey and watermelon. 

Mateo: First, buy it at the store. Get a pan and out it in. Next, Put in oven at 10 million degrees for just 5 minutes. Then, open oven give it to my family and eat it. My favorite is marshmallows.

Daniel: First, go hunting for it. Bring it home. Next, cut it up and cook it. Put in oven at 60 degrees for 30 minutes. Then, you take it out of oven and cool it down. Last, you eat!! Turkey is my favorite.

Janie: First, go buy turkey at store. Next, take it to the house. Put the oven on 6 percent for 6 minutes. Them, put it on a plate. Then you get some utensils. Last, start eating! Ham and turkey are my favorite.

Presley: First, go to the store. Next, cook it. 4 degrees for 6 minutes. Then, eat it!

Faridah: First, catch one, put it on top of a pan. Next, turn oven to 5 degrees and cook for 10 minutes. Get it out. Than, eat it. My favorite is the turkey!

Zekiel: First, I could make the turkey with sparkles. I would buy it from the grocery store. Next, eat it with my family.

Kendall: First, go to the store, come home. Next, make a fire in the fire pit and put pot on fire for 6 hours. Then, take it off and get gloves and make it in to something. Last, eat! My favorite is thanksgiving food.

Macklynn Henderson: First, I will hunt for a turkey. Next, I will put some salad on the turkey. Then, I will cook the turkey for 10 minutes. Last, I will eat the turkey with family.

Bodee Harris: First, I would buy a turkey. Next, I will wash the turkey and season it with salt and pepper. Last, I will cook it and give it to my family.

Shaila Luna: First I will make a turkey. Next, I will cook it for a long time. Then, I will cut it up. Last, I will eat it. 

Emerson Copes: First, I will hunt a turkey. Next, I will cook it in the microwave for 20 seconds. Then, I will cool it off in the freezer. Last, I will eat it.

Bladen Daily: First, I will hunt a turkey. Next, I will cook it for 5 minutes. Then, take it out of the oven. Last, I will eat it with my family.

Braelynn Tedford: First, I will put in microwave for 1 minute. Next, I will cut it. then, I will put pepper on it. Last, I will eat it.

Julius Castro: First, I will go to the store and buy a turkey. Next, I will invite my papa to his house. Last, I will eat the turkey with Brisa, Mom and Dad.

Elijah Houston: First, I will hunt for a turkey. Next, I will cook it. Then, I will put on seasoning. Last, I will eat with my family.

Rogers Forst: First, I will hunt for a turkey. Next, I will put the turkey on a pan and add some shrimp. Then, I will cook the turkey for 2 hours. Last, I will take it out and eat it with a knife and fork.

Avery Jones: First, I will buy a turkey. Next, I will cook the turkey for 5 hours. Then, I will season with salt and pepper. Last, I will eat it with family and grandparents.

Chase Allen: First, I will go to the store and bring a turkey home. Next,I will leave it till it is unfreezed. Then, I will put whipped cream on it and cook it for 10 hours. Last, I will wait till its done and watch TV and eat it.

Creek Denney: First, I will go to the grocery store. Next, I will fry the turkey for 5 minutes. Then, I will bake it for 6 minutes. Last, I will eat the turkey.

Coral Fox: First, I will get a turkey from the grocery store. Next, I will season the turkey and put a little sauce on it. Then, I will fry the turkey for 8 minutes. Last, I will eat turkey with my Grandma and Grandpa.

McKenna Benson: First, I will get a turkey from Walmart. Next, I will put something on it. Then, I will cook it in the oven for 1 minute. Last, I will make it and eat it with my family.

Bryson Bryant: First, I will go hunt for a turkey. Next, I will cook it with salt for 8 minutes. Then, I will cool it off. Last, I will eat with my mom and dad.

Harper Escalera: First, I will have a turkey in the fridge. Next, I will cook it in the oven. Then, I will bake it for 40 minutes. Last, I will share it with my family.

Jayt Simmons: First I will go to my NeNes house and buy a turkey at the store. Next, I will cook the turkey in the oven for 20 minutes. Then, I will get more food. Last, I will eat with my family and out plates in the sink.

Zoey Poage: First, I will get one from the store. Next, I will bake it in the oven for 8 minutes. Then, I will eat the turkey. Last, I will clean up.

Birdie B: In the oven for 45 hours with sprinkles. We don’t eat turkey. Feed it to the dogs and they can eat it with dog food.

Brooks B: In the oven first then on the stove for 65 hours. On top put pepperoni, cheese, pizza turkey, sprinkles,donuts, candy shirts, Ms. Sharon’s head and books, candy pumpkins, pencils, an eye, a picture of my brother I love, wrapped rocks and road lights. (Thank you Brooks, you can go play. But Ms. Sharon, I want to fill your whole page of paper, I am not done. I know Brooks, but I need to interview the other kids before they go home, lol!!!) 

Connor H: We don’t eat it. We eat chicken eggs. Travis, my dad, cooks them in a pan on the stove for 8 hours. We put sprinkles on cupcakes. I live with my dog Ace. I like to play with fire trucks with the hose and lights. We eat macaroni and cheese, bacon and cheese.

Marleen B: We only eat chicken. We cook it on the stove for 1 hour and then eat it up.

Max E: First we get a flying bird and cook it for 1 hour with sauce. Then it flies again and we eat it. Then we play on the playground.

Myla G: On the stove for 8 hours, eat it for dinner sprinkled with chocolate. Eat pizza with drinks.

Rebel H: Buy it. Flip it. And cook on the stove for 40 minutes. Spray it and then we play.

Stella B: Actually on top of the stove with sprinkles for 2 minutes. Then we eat it. and also the dogs.

Sutton D: Cut it in half, cook it in the oven for 5 minutes. Eat it for thanksgiving. I help my dad cook hamburgers. 

Tucker S: In the oven for 2 or 30 minutes with sprinkles. Eat it and cheese, then play.

How to cook a turkey?

3-year-old’s

Bowyn Clark: Get the turkey at home. Put juice on it. Don’t cook it or it will burn!

Bella Luttrull: Get the turkey from outside. Put ice on it. Put I the oven and let it cook for 3 hours.  It will be hot!

Cleo Hobbs:  Get a turkey from outside.

Dawson Johnson: Hunt the turkey by the tree.  Then kill it with your fingernails and hit it.  Put it in the oven for 5 hours.  Take it out and rub it with icing.

Emma Sinclair:  Turkey!!

Jayden Villarreal: Get the turkey from the forest.  Bake it in the oven for 20 minutes.  Then eat it.

Kyndal Klein:  Get the turkey from the tree.  Put it in the oven, then eat it.

Mila Hill:  Get the turkey from home. Fry it. Eat it.

Rhyan Hobbs:  Get turkey from forest store.  Cook it free with apple juice. Eat it.

Ronald Sain: Get the turkey at Cowboy school.  Take it to leave at my house.  Put hot sauce, meat and cheese on it.  Put in oven for 5 hours.  Then I go play cars. Then eat the turkey!

How to Cook and Thanksgiving Turkey

Aidan Baker: First, catch a turkey and have an ax ready. Cut the orange part of the legs off and the head. Next, take off all the feathers. Now, cook the turkey for 100 minutes and when the oven beeps it is done. Cool it off, cut it up and eat it.

Sawyer Dewbre: First, you cut up the turkey. Next, cook it for 8 minutes in a hot oven. Then eat it!

Jade Harrison: First, you buy a turkey from the supermarket, then you cook it for 6 minutes. Put it in a pan and then you eat it.

Denny Johnson: First, kill a turkey in the country. Next, cook it in the oven for 1 hour. Last, I will eat it.

Bentley Kimbro: First, I will get a turkey from Walmart. Next, put it in the oven for 15 minutes. It will beep when it’s done. Then eat it.

Laiklee Klein: First, get the turkey out of the fridge. Cook it in the oven for about 2 hours, until it beeps. Then take it out and put it on your table. Ask the kids to come to the table and eat it. Then tell your mom when you’re done and clean your mess up!

Tayleigh Klein: First, put a turkey on a pan and cook it for 10 minutes. Get it out of the oven and eat it. Have fun with your family!

Dorothy Rodriguez: Get a turkey from the country. Kill it and take off the feathers, then cook it. Then eat it.

Kaylyn Shockley: First, I put seasoning on it, then put some butter on it. Next, put on some sugar and cinnamon. Put it in the oven for 5 minutes, it will be done when it beeps. Take it out, then cut it up to eat!

Ryker Skinner: Ummm, sauce and pineapple. Mix it up. Bake it in the oven for 20 minutes. Put some gravy on it and cut it into pieces. That’s it!

Shooter Taylor: First, get a turkey from the farm. Put it in a sack and put it in the trunk. When you get home, cook it in the oven for 20 minutes. Then eat it. After that we clean up the mess and the table.

Ryleigh Todd: First, you get a turkey from the farm. Then you take it home and put it in the oven for a long time (10 hours). Get it back out and then you can eat it up!

How to cook a turkey?

Aron Villarreal:  He would stuff it with a chicken, and then put some cheese with some bread crumbs on top.  Next I would cook it on the barbecue pit for one hour.

Bentley Martin:  I would put some hot sauce on the turkey and cook it in a very hot oven a very long time. Then I’d take it out cut and add some more hot sauce and eat it.

Ellie Clark:  Throw it in a super-hot oven in a pan for 69 hours.

Garry Partain:  Put it in a pan and put it in the oven on hot, hot for 10 minutes.

Jacie Christian:  I will put it in a pan and put some hot sauce on it and put it in the oven on fifty-hundred degrees for  58 minutes then take it out and eat it.

Kensli Rodriguez:  Put it in a pan and put it in the microwave 5 minutes and then put it in the warm oven for 3 minutes then put it on a plate then put it the freezer then pull it out so we can eat it.

Leona Lozano:   Put it in a pan then sprinkle it with sugar then put it in the oven on *41 for 20 minutes.  Then after it cools off cut it up and eat it.

Margot Roberts:  put it in a pan and put in a *10 oven for 12 minutes and then it’s done.

Olivia Gibson:  Stuff my turkey with a chicken then wash it off and wash my hand the put it in a pot and cook it on the stove at high heat for 22 minutes. Then invite all the family over to eat it.  

Preston Rodriguez:  First I’m going to stuff my turkey with more turkey then I’m going to hang it on the wall.  Going to get off the wall pot it in a *1000 oven for 1 minute then take it out to eat it.  

Remi Brown:  I would put it on a red plate and put it in the oven at 98/ 55 degrees for 80 minutes.  Then move it to a different plate and add some smoke to it then put it on the table and eat it.

Ryan Seniors Finish Last Game of Season At District Tournament

STERLING – It was a short stay at the Class B District Tournament for the Ryan Cowboy baseball squad, but it came as no surprise as the Cowboys closed out the season at 0-11 – the first known winless season in school history.

Last Thursday the Cowboys were pounded by Sterling, 15-0, in the first game of the tourney and then fell in a heart-breaker to Big Pasture, 5-4, in games played here.

Sterling pitcher Lane Reynolds battled control problems early but settled down to toss a one-hitter for the Tigers.

In the top of the first inning the Cowboys put two runners on via two free passes, but ended the inning without a score.

The Tigers also took advantage of Ryan pitcher Andrew Villerreal’s lack of control in the bottom of the first inning.

After one out, three consecutive Tigers walked. Eventually the Tigers scored four runs on a two-run triple by Matas Puccio and a Cowboy miscue.

The Cowboys got a leadoff walk in the top of the second and Pacen Wiest got the only hit of the game for the Cowboys but a base runner mishap contributed to the Cowboys failing to score in the inning.

 Sterling added four more runs in the bottom of the second. A single, a walk and a hit batsman to lead off the inning was followed by a two-run single by Reynolds. A fielder’s choice and another singled scored the other two runs.

Reynolds then settled into a groove for the Tigers and retired seven straight Cowboys.

Sterling padded the lead in the bottom of the third adding five runs to take a 13-0 lead.

The Cowboys tried to extend the game in the top of the fifth when Trey Bryant walked and Gunner Phillips was hit by a pitch, but the Cowboys could not come up with the key hit.

In the second game with Big Pasture, the Rangers opened the contest with a walk, a stolen base, a wild pitch and a passed ball to score one run.

The Cowboys quickly took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Travis Fristoe led off with a double and after one out, Grayson Tomberlin launched a bomb over the left field fence to give the Cowboys a 2-1 lead.

The Cowboys added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Fristoe’s two-out single and two errors on the play helped the Cowboys get a run to extend the lead to 3-1.

That came after the first of two lightning delays.

In the top of the sixth inning after the second lightning delay and a brief rain shower, the Rangers mounted a three-run uprising to seize the lead at 4-3. Two errors, two singles, a hit batsman and three stolen bases produced the three runs.

In the bottom of the sixth inning the Cowboys tied the game. Carson Cooper led off with a walk and Wiest was hit by a pitch. Cooper was later thrown out trying to steal third.

An error put Fristoe on base and Wiest scored on a fielder’s choice by Phillips.

A pair of strikeouts ended the inning as the Cowboys left three runners on base. Ryan stranded 11 runners throughout the contest.

In the top of the seventh, the Rangers scored as Harley Clem led off with a single and scored on Caleb Thompson’s double. This turned out to be the winning run for the Rangers.

In the bottom of the inning, Skyler Wickware led off with a single and eventually stole second, but the next three Ryan batters went down on strikes and the game ended.

Tomberlin, who pitched effectively through most of the game, took the loss for the Cowboys. He finished with 11 strikeouts and allowed only three hits.

Tomberlin and Fristoe led the Cowboys at the plate as each had two hits. Tomberlin finished with two runs batted in.

Sterling came back to win the district title with a pair of wins over Big Pasture. The Tigers defeated the Rangers, 15-0, on Thursday and then secured the district crown last Friday with another 15-0     victory.

SEASON-ENDING NOTES: The home run by Tomberlin was his first of the season and the only home run hit this season by a Cowboy….Three Big Pasture pitchers struck out 12 Cowboys during the game – the third most strikeouts by a Cowboy team in a single game in school history…The Cowboys have now lost eight straight district tournament games to seven different teams….The Cowboys were directed by Tony Roberts and he was the third coach in three seasons for the Cowboy nine….The 11 strikeouts by Tomberlin ties for the fifth most in school history behind Coby Martin’s 16 strikeouts in a 10-inning contest against Ringling in 2010, Jason Smith’s 13 strikeouts against Byers, Texas in 1994 and Preston McCarty’s and Denver Overstreet’s 12 strike outs in 1949 and 2011, respectively….The 11 games played is the fewest number of games played since 1961 when Ryan finished 6-2 on the season….The 2019 campaign was marred by inclement weather and play eligibility problems….In an earlier game against Waurika where the Eagles mauled the Cowboys, 35-1, three school records were broken….The 35 runs by the Eagles are the most ever by an opponent breaking the old mark of 28 set by Tipton in a 1952 regional tournament game….The 31 earned runs in the game is a new school mark for most earned runs allowed…Waurika collected 23 hits in the game breaking the old record of 22 hits by Whitesboro in a regional tourney game in 2011.


Ryan High School Receives Technology Grant From State Agency

 Ryan High School has received word of its selection to receive a grant from the Oklahoma Educational Technology Trust.

 The news of the selection was shared last Thursday with Ryan High School principal Tony Tomberlin.

 The grant totals $65,000 and is divided into designated money for equipment and money for professional development for faculty at Ryan High School.

 The high school was selected out of multiple schools from across the state of Oklahoma meaning grade schools, middle schools and high schools.

 Application for the grant had to be made and on average only about 18 to 20 schools have been selected since grants were first awarded in 2001.

 “This grant will help prepare our students for college and give them new and more interactive ways to learn,” said Ryan superintendent of schools Marcus Chapman.

 “We are very excited to see this new technology in use,” noted Chapman. “A big thanks goes to our technology committee for the time and effort put into writing this grant!”

 The trust which was first established with a $30 million gift by AT&T Oklahoma exists to equip Oklahoma common school and Career Tech students with the technology and technological skills necessary to compete in today’s global marketplace.

 The grant provides funds for computer and telecommunications equipment, infrastructure, leadership and professional development to implement and advance integration of technology into classroom instruction.

 It took Ryan High School officials two tries to receive the grant and it was a two-year process.

 “The grant has been a long process,” said Tomberlin. “It is a high school only grant and you have to apply by school and not district.”

 The faculty of the high school put together a desired plan and vision for technology use at the school and a technology team wrote the grant.

Members of the technology team included Angie Underwood, Seth Miranda, Kim Rhoades, Raquel Welchel and Tomberlin. Natalie Seay was also instrumental in the process.

Ryan High School is the only school in southwest Oklahoma to receive the grant for this year.

Tomberlin outlined the plans for the grant money designated for equipment.

“We will use the money to purchase two augmented reality tables, digital microscopes, several augmented/virtual reality headsets, 3-D printers and some other technology to go with it,” explained Tomberlin.

The OETT was established in 2001 as a result of an agreement between then Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmonson and AT&T Oklahoma during the company’s transition to a modern form of regulation. AT&T establishing the trust with the gift was part of the agreement.

Through the years, OETT has granted approximately $21 million worth of technology and professional development to 289 schools across Oklahoma. This initiative has reached well over 12,000 teachers and 150,000 students in communities and schools both large and small across the state of Oklahoma.

Interested schools have to successfully complete leadership training offered and after completing this stage, the next step is for administrators of schools to become eligible to apply for the grant money. The grant recipients are required to provide a 10% match ($4,000) that can be used for technology and equipment.

Ryan Homecoming This Friday

 Preparations are underway for the 2020 Ryan Football Homecoming Parade and festivities set for Friday, September 25.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. from the school parking lot, and the football queen coronation will begin at 6:30p.m. prior to the game with Thackerville.  

Each class for the school will have an entry in the parade.  The theme this year is “Mask the Wildcats”.  There will be cash awards given to the first, second, and third place winners.  

The queen candidates and princesses will also be presented during the parade.

The Candidates are:  Sophomore-Lirin Tucker, daughter of Tanya & Jason Tucker, Junior- Katelynn Dabbs, daughter of Jeff Dabbs , Senior- Tawny Vanover, daughter of Misty & Wiley Vanover , Candidate at Large- Kodi Duke, daughter of Tina & Ronnie Duke.

The Princesses are:  Seventh grade- Kamrie Hernandez, daughter of  Jenny &Jamie Salinas, Eighth grade- Beau Combs, daughter of Stevie Howard & Jody Combs, Ninth grade- Maci Cooper daughter of Starla & Adam Cooper.

The flower girl is Sky Chapman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Chapman.  The crown bearer is Blue Chapman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Chapman.

She is Co-Salutatorian of the Ryan Senior Class. 

Cara loves to sing and perform with her guitar. She performed at this year’s graduation. 

She will attend USAO in Chickasha this fall and major in Deaf Education. She loves working with children.

She originally wanted to be an interpreter for the hearing impaired. 

Cara and Mackenzie Lewis will room together at USAO. 

 As long as she is involved in early childhood education she says she will be happy. 

The thought of being an influence on children and helping them grow and learn inspires her. 

She not only wants to connect with her future students she wants to have a positive impact on the parents of her students as well. 

Some of her favorite memories include the times she spent in Spanish class and the discussions they would have. 

Cara took two years of Spanish while attending Ryan. 

Her accomplishments in High School were Beta President; Perfect Attendance; Co-Salutatorian.

She is an avid reader and will read just about anything. 

Her favorite subjects in school was English and literature. 

She loves all kinds of music except for various types of country music. 

Cara is excited about school in the fall and being room mates with Mackenzie. 

She loves to baby sit. She will do that for the rest of the summer. 

Cara has a quiet thoughtful demeanor. 

Her communication skills and ability to connect with others will take her far. 

It will be neat to see the influence she has on future generations. 

May all her dreams come true. 

Cowboys, Cowgirls Go Winless In Bulldog Bash

The Ryan basketball squads found the going a bit tough last weekend in the annual Bulldog Bash at Healdton High School.

Neither team could capture a win in the tourney.

The Cowboys fell to Elmore City-Pernell last Thursday in a first round contest, 56-46, and then fell in the consolation semifinals to Wilson, 51-32.

It was a difficult outing for the Cowgirls as only six players were available for the first round game with Wilson and the Cowgirls lost another player in the game and eventually fell to the Lady Eagles, 37-27.

Last Friday in the consolation semifinals against Turner, the Cowgirls’ Kenzie Lewis suffered an injury in the first half forcing the Cowgirls to play with only four players most of the game and the Lady Falcons took full advantage to capture a 46-31 win.

Those four players that remained on the floor for the Cowgirls in Friday’s game were all sophomores, but they managed to outscore the Lady Falcons in the second half, 24-15, even though Turner left their starters in the game the entire way.

It was the hot shooting from the outside for the Lady Falcons that allowed them to build an insurmountable lead.

The Lady Falcons hit three three-pointers in the first quarter in building a 15-3 advantage and then hit four more in the second quarter to take a 31-7 lead into the locker room.

Juliet Spangler led the Cowgirl scoring attack with 18 points, while Lily York added 10 points. Bailey Martin contributed three points to round out the scoring for the Cowgirls.

In the Cowboys’ consolation semifinal contest with Wilson, it was also the opponent’s hot shooting from the outside that doomed the Cowboys.

Wilson managed a 14-10 lead after one quarter and held a 21-16 advantage at halftime. Three of the Eagles made baskets in the first half were beyond the arc.

In the second half, the Eagles took advantage of poor shooting by the Cowboys and built a 33-21 lead after the third quarter.

Wilson outscored the Cowboys, 18-11, in the final frame to capture the win.

Grayson Tomberlin led the Cowboys in scoring with nine points.

In the first round game with Wilson, the Cowgirls fell behind after one quarter, 13-7 and could never rally the rest of the bout with the Lady Eagles.

Wilson led, 22-9, at the break thanks to four treys. The Cowgirls battled on even terms much of the second half, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Spangler and Lily York led the Cowgirls in scoring with nine points each. The Cowgirls had another tough night at the free throw line as they connected on only six of 14 free throws.

The Cowgirls finished with only five players as Kenzie Keith dislocated a finger early in the game.

In the first-round game against Elmore City-Pernell, the Cowboys kept the contest close throughout the first half and actually held a 25-24 lead at intermission.

But, the Badgers went on a tear in the third quarter as they outscored the Cowboys, 19-0, to take control of the game with a 43-25 advantage.

The Cowboys managed to trim the lead in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Badgers, 21-13.

The Badgers did much of their damage at the foul line hitting 23 of 35 free throws, while the Cowboys connected on only 13 of 24 charity tosses.

The game was marred by 45 fouls.

Tomberlin led the Cowboys in scoring with 11 points.

Ryan will play host to Thackerville tonight on Raymon West Court before traveling to Healdton for a doubleheader with the Carter County School on Friday.

Next Tuesday the Cowboys and Cowgirls return home for a matchup with Southern Eight foe Geronimo.

Valedictorian Tate Kimbro Seeks to Soar in the Aeronautical Industry

 He loves anything mechanical and working with his hands.

When he is not fishing or hunting, he loves working on the ranch and staying busy.

Tate will be going to SWOSU in Weatherford in  the fall and majoring in Engineering Technology. Perhaps he will be working for Boeing or some aeronautical company. 

Some of his fondest memories comes from time he spent with his friends and playing sports.

One of his favorite memories is the time Joseph Martin passed a basketball across court to J.D. who made the winning basket against Waurika. 

When it comes to hunting, he really enjoys hunting deer. He even has a recipe he got from Tyler Garrett to make a really great deer jerkey. 

His favorite music is heavy metal. 

He loves the movie The Green Mile. He also likes scary movies. 

The only book he really enjoys reading is the Bible. 

His favorite color is powder blue. 

He looks forward to getting started at Weatherford. He wants to show up two weeks in advance so he can go ahead and get to work. He plans on working his way through school. 

Just a few of his accomplishments include Valedictorian, 8-man All-Star, Beta, FFA, Offensive Lineman of the year, NTHS.

His favorite subjects in school include all maths and physics. 

He really loves math. 

Tate is a strapping  young  man who conducts himself as a gentleman. 

His future is bright. It will be neat to see what he does down the road. 

His love of life and ability to converse with others will take him far.

Cowboys Pull Out 30-14 Homecoming Victory over Maysville

 It was quite a show of offense last Friday night at Bob Givens Sports Complex by Ryan and Maysville.

It just did not result in a lot of points.

The Cowboys, however, had just enough firepower to record a 30-14 victory over the Warriors in Ryan’s homecoming game.

Now the Cowboys hit the road for the third time in four games as they travel to Caddo tomorrow night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Caddo is 1-2 on the year.

The Cowboys rolled up 453 total yards in the game but turnovers and the inability to convert two-point conversions kept the Cowboys from lighting up the scoreboard.

The Cowboy defense came up with a few big plays to thwart a number of Maysville scoring threats to help Ryan earn its third victory of the season.

The Cowboys scored on their opening drive of the game marching 70 yards on seven plays. Skyler Parkhill covered the final four yards for the score. The two-point conversion failed, but Ryan held a 6-0 lead with 9:34 left in the first quarter.

Maysville threatened to answer the Cowboys’ score, but the Warriors’ drive bogged down after a delay of game penalty and a nine-yard loss on a quarterback sack by Parkhill on a fourth down play from the Ryan 28.

The Cowboys took over at their own 37 and it took Ryan only two plays to score. Parkhill picked up seven yards and then sophomore quarterback Grayson Tomberlin had a nifty 56-yard run for the score. The two-point conversion failed, but Ryan held a 12-0 advantage with 3:51 to play in the first period.

On the ensuing kickoff the Cowboys perfectly executed an onside kick as Andrew Villerreal combined to kick the ball and recover the onside kick giving Ryan possession at midfield.

It took Ryan seven plays to drive to the Maysville 33 and that is when the game’s momentum slipped from the grasp of the Cowboys. Talented Maysville quarterback and defensive back Gunner Aprill picked off an errant Tomberlin pass and returned the interception 41 yards to give Maysville possession at the Ryan 48.

The Warriors drove the ball deep into Ryan territory, but Tomberlin picked off a pass in the end zone to keep the Warriors off the scoreboard.

The Cowboys turned the ball back over the Warriors just two plays later on a mishandled exchange and this time Maysville took advantage. On the first play of the drive, Aprill scampered 24 yards for the touchdown and also ran for the two points to cut Ryan’s lead to 12-8 with 7:30 left in the first half.

Ryan answered the score with a seven-play, 63-yard scoring drive. The big play of the drive was a 42-yard completion to Parkhill that gave the Cowboys a first-and-goal at the Warrior seven.

After a loss and a 10-yard penalty, Kalen Weldon picked up 16 yards on a counter and then Tomberlin found Parkhill across the middle of the end zone for a four-yard touchdown pass. Again the Cowboys failed to convert the two-point try, but led 18-8 with 3:33 left before intermission.

Maysville answered the Cowboy score quickly. A 25-yard kickoff return put the Warriors in business at the Ryan 45 and in just three plays went the distance for the score. Aprill found Damon McCallister behind the Cowboy defense for a 47-yard touchdown pass. The try for two failed, but with 2:02 left before the half the Warriors had trimmed the lead to 18-14.

The Cowboys threatened to score again by driving to the Maysville 25, but the Warriors intercepted another pass in the end zone to turn back the Cowboys and the half ended with Maysville running out the remaining seconds.

On Maysville’s opening drive of the second half Aprill took the Warriors from their own 36 to the Ryan 32 as he carried the ball on every play with the exception of one pass incompletion. Ryan stopped the Warriors on fourth down and took the ball over on downs.

The Cowboys took 11 plays to move 72 yards with Weldon’s key 21-yard spectacular catch keeping the drive alive on a fourth down. Parkhill went around left end for the final 12 yards and Ryan held a 24-14 lead with 4:03 left in the third quarter.

Maysville went on another long drive and moved the ball to the Ryan 23, but on fourth down Villerreal chased down Aprill for a six-yard loss that gave the Cowboys the ball on downs.

On the third play of the drive Tomberlin found Parkhill open on the left side and after the Cowboy senior dodged a couple of tacklers, he sprinted 71 yards for the score with 9:00 left in the game. The run for two points failed again, but Ryan was in front, 30-14.

Two of Maysville’s final three drives resulted in the Cowboy defense getting key stops on fourth downs to help preserve the victory.

Tomberlin and Parkhill accounted for most of the 453 total yards on offense for the Cowboys.

Parkhill set the school record for most yards receiving in a game with 189 yards on just seven receptions. He also rushed six times for 30 yards.

Tomberlin finished with 151 yards rushing on 19 carries. He was 12 of 20 passing for 249 yards, but he did have three interceptions.

On defense, Tomberlin and Parkhill played big roles. Tomberlin was in on 17 tackles on the night, while Parkhill added nine stops. Villerreal, who had 11 tackles, and Parkhill put pressure on the Maysville quarterback much of the night.

COWBOY CORRAL: The win broke a two-game losing streak in homecoming games for Ryan not including last year’s homecoming game with Grandfield which Ryan won by forfeit…..Ryan now leads the short series with Maysville, 4-2….This was the first meeting between the two schools in an eight-man game….The last time Ryan played Maysville was in 1975 with the Cowboys coming away with a 9-6 victory….Tomberlin’s passing performance was the sixth most yards passing by a quarterback in school history….It was also the sixth most passing yards by a Cowboy team in school history….The 12 receptions in the game ties for the ninth most in a single game in school history along with the 12 receptions in a 1940 contest with Grandfield…The 30 points scored by Ryan is the second most in the series with Maysville just behind the 34 points scored in a 34-0 victory by the 1974 squad….The 1988 Ryan Cowboys, the first Ryan football team to play for a state title, were introduced at halftime along with coaches Phil Elerick and Gordon Garner.

Waurika and Ryan Thinclads Have Good Day at Waurika Meet

 The weather for last Saturday’s Red River Invitational Track Meet hosted by Waurika was some of the best of the season and the results for both Ryan and Waurika reflected the better conditions.

Waurika girls finished second in the meet with 100 points behind Atoka’s 122 points.

Ryan’s girls finished fourth with 68 points well behind third-place Frederick that finished with 96 points.

Walters took the team title in the boys’ division with a dominating performance. The Blue Devils racked up 187 points outdistancing Riverside Indian School that finished with 148 points.

Waurika finished third in the team standings with 91 points and Ryan finished eighth in the 14-team meet with 33 points.

One of the highlights of the meet came in the 3,200 meter relay where Ryan and Waurika continued to battle for supremacy in the event as they have throughout this season.

This time, it was the Ryan Cowgirl squad of Lilybet Harmon, Lily York, Juliet Spangler and Holland Carter that took first-place honors with a time of 10:52.01. The time is a new school record for Ryan in the event.

Waurika managed second place in the event with a time of 10:58.70. Asia Smith, Lexie Streeter, Faith Roberson and Tallin Mora ran for the Lady Eagles in the event. It was easily the best time of the season turned in by this squad.

Waurika had three other relay teams to place in the meet – the primary factor for the Lady Eagles to earn runner up team honors.

The 800 meter relay team of Kaci Reynolds, Savana Ritter, Hope Cummings and Sara Ballard finished sixth with a time of 2:09.57.

That time was two seconds behind Ryan’s team of Harmon, York, Spangler and Carter who turned in a time of 2:07.28 to take fifth place.

The 400 meter relay team of Dallas Fristoe, Ritter, Reynolds and Ballard ran fifth for the Lady Eagles and turned in a time of 59.54.

In the 1,600 meter relay the Cowgirls and Lady Eagles battled again, but this time Frederick posted the winning time with the Cowgirl team of Harmon, York, Spangler and Carter finishing second with a time of 4:53.03 which is a new school mark.

The Lady Eagles finished fifth with the team of Smith, Streeter, F. Roberson and Mora posting a time of 5:10.28.

In the individual events, Madison Roberson had an outstanding day for the Lady Eagles as she earned two gold medals in the shot put and discus. Her shot put mark was 37-2, while the toss of the discus was 106-5.

Mora also won a gold medal for the Lady Eagles in the long jump with a leap of 16-2. Ballard earned a bronze medal with a jump of 15-0.

The other gold medal winner for the Lady Eagles was Smith in the 1,600 meters. She posted a time of 6:22.02 and Streeter was not far behind earning third place with a time of 6:28.37.

In the 800 meters, Smith finished fifth with a time of 2:46.71. Mora was sixth with a mark of 2:49.36 and F. Roberson finished eighth with a time of 3:11.99.

Ballard also scored for the Lady Eagles as she finished seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 13.86.

The Cowgirls did not have any titlist in the individual events, but Spangler did earn a silver medal in the 3,200 meters with a time of 14:14.33.

Harmon and Carter both placed for the Cowgirls in the 800 meters. Harmon was third with a timeof 2:44.04 and Carter was just behind in fourth place with a time of 2:44.87.

Spangler finished fifth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 6:39.24.

The only other scorer for the Cowgirls was Katlyn Dabbs in the 300 meter hurdles with an eighth place finish. She recorded a time of 62.69. She is the first Cowgirl to score points in this event since the 1997 Southern Eight Conference track event.

The Eagles had another impressive day in the relay races. Waurika placed in every relay and won the 1,600 meter relay.

The team of Kevin Garcia, Turner Mora, Colton Bryant and Cache Arellano turned in a time of 3:42.98 to earn the gold medal just four-hundredths of a second behind the best time of the season.

The 3,200 meter relay team of Arellano, Bryant, Garcia and Bryson Hernandez finished second with a time of 9:18.58. It was Waurika’s best time in the event this season.

The 400 meter relay team of Garcia, Tu. Mora, Nic Alvarado and Bryant was third with a time of 59.54.

The same quartet also took third in the 800 meter relay with a time of 1:36.81. This was the best time of the season for the Eagles in this event.

Tu. Mora also won a gold medal in the 400 meters with his time of 53.62. He was the only gold medal winner for the Eagles on the day.

In the discus, Aaron Nitka finished fourth with a toss of 113-10, while Alvarado managed to finished fifth in the 100 meters with 11.5. Hernandez rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with a seventh place finish in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:32.44.

The Cowboys did not have any teams entered in the relays during the meet, but did have several outstanding marks in some of the individual events.

Walker Rawlings topped the performers for the Cowboys in the meet with two gold medals. He was first in the shot put with a toss of 41-10 and also first in the discus with a throw of 125-10.

Travis Fristoe had some impressive performances for the Cowboys. His mark of 19-3 in the long jump earned him fifth place and is the best mark in that event by a Ryan athlete since the 1985 Healdton invitational when Justin Savage posted a 20-6 jump.

Fristoe was also fifth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 19.25.

The Cowboy senior was also fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 59.86, while Landen Alexander also scored in the event for the Cowboys by finishing eighth with a time of 66.92.

Salutatorian Dawson Tomberlin Plans on Future in Occupational Safety

Dawson is also Salutatorian of this year’s senior class of Ryan High School. 

His plans are to attend Southeastern at Durant and major in Occupational Safety. 

He knew he wanted to go to Durant once he visited the campus. He loves the campus and the community. 

Some of his favorite memories include the times he participated in sports. 

Playing football for his dad (Tony Tomberlin is one of the high school football coaches and Tomberlin is also the Ryan principal). 

Fishing is his favorite hobby. He and Tate have found time to enjoy the sport together. 

He considers fishing a great pastime. 

When he’s not fishing he enjoys lifting weights. 

A few of his accomplishments in High School were FFA, Beta, Co-Salutatorian, Co-MVP of District in Football, selected to 8-man All-Star Game, Southern 8 Conference, All-Star in Basketball.

The subjects he really enjoyed in high school were math and history. 

He enjoyed being a part of the Beta Club and FFA.

Dawson also liked the times he spent working with Coach Mueggenborg. 

Forrest Gump is his favorite movie. 

Rock and hip hop are the styles of music he prefers. 

Dawson is a nice and courteous young man. 

He exudes a quiet subtle confidence that will serve him well in the future. 

It will be interesting to watch his future unfold. We wish him all the good that life has to offer. 

This summer he will be working at the high school. It’s a job he has enjoyed over the past few summers. 

He really looks forward to beginning his college career.
