Ethel Anthony celebrated her 97th birthday September 25th. She was taken to eat at Applebees by Wayne and Regina, her son and daughter-in-law.
She is fortunate she is able to stay at home with the aid of her electric cart.
Ethel is one of 8 children and is one of 2 still living. The other is Stella Heemer of Houston, who is 95.
Ethel has 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
She also had a daughter, Doris who is recently deceased.
Members of Waurika FCCLA recently attended the South 4 District Leadership Meeting in Duncan. Approximately 500 students from southwest Oklahoma attended the meeting held at the Simmons Center. This year’s meeting, called “The Great Leadership Adventure”, centered on an outdoor camping theme. Members wore their new chapter tshirts, which followed the theme. FCCLA chapters collected 400 pounds of aluminum pull tabs to donate to their service project, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Oklahoma. The highlight of the meeting was the Oklahoma City dance troupe, Generation Why, which entertained the students, as well as delivered messages about anti-bullying, suicide prevention and overcoming adversity. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is the student leadership organization that accompanies the Family and Consumer Sciences program at Waurika High School.

Terral Volunteer Fire Department– Will be selling t-shirts until June 15th. Cost os $15.00 for regular sizes and $17.00 for 2XL to 4XL. All proceeds go to the Volunteer Fire Department. You may pick up an order for at City Hall and Drop it back by City Hall. If you have ordered a T-shirt and not paid for it please stop by City Hall and pay for your shirts.
FBC Girls in Action- GA’s end-of-the-year Pool Party is set for Wednesday, June 13th. We will leave from the church at 6:00pm to go to the Bowie Pool. Pool party is from 7:00 to 9:00 afterwards we will have pizza at the pavilion. Girls will be delivered home after we return to Terral. Hope to see you there!

With events like the Labor Day Celebration and the Grandparents Celebration as well as exciting exhibits, there is plenty of fun activities to enjoy while visiting the cultural center.
Labor Day Celebration
Join us for the Labor Day Celebration Saturday, Sept. 1, and Sunday, Sept. 2, for a weekend filled with festivities.
Listen to storytellers and visit with cultural instructors to discover traditions passed down from generations with cultural demonstrations, traditional games, stomp dancing and more.
The animated film “Sherlock Gnomes” will be showing at 3 p.m. in the Anoli’ Theater Saturday, Sept. 1.
In observance of Labor Day, the Chickasaw Cultural Center will be closed Monday, Sept. 3.
Grandparents Celebration
In honor of grandparents, the Chickasaw Cultural Center is hosting a weekend celebration Saturday, Sept. 8, and Sunday, Sept. 9.
Activities include stomp dance demonstrations and cultural demonstrations. Grandparents will receive special discounts in the Chikasha Poya Exhibit Center, the Aachompa’ gift shops and the Aaimpa’ Cafe.
The film “Cocoon” will be showing at 1 p.m. in the Anoli’ Theater.
Exhibits
The Chickasaw Cultural Center is currently showcasing two historical exhibits.
The Te Ata Exhibit and the Sculpting Cultures: Southeast and Southwest Native Pottery Exhibit will be available to visit during the celebration.
Explore the life of Mary “Te Ata” Thompson Fisher and her journey to become one of the greatest Native American performers of all time now through Nov. 11 in the Aapisa’ Art Gallery.
View items owned and worn by Te Ata, as well as memorabilia and props from the recently released, award-winning film.
The Sculpting Cultures: Southeast and Southwest Native Pottery Exhibit features historic Pueblo pottery from the Keres language family and modern pottery from Five Tribes artists.
This exhibit is a partnership with the Indian Arts Research Center at the School for Advanced Research and the Museum of the Red River. The pottery will be displayed in the Aaittafama’ Room now through Sept. 2.
The events and exhibits are open to the public at no charge.

CITY WIDE CLEAN UP- The Town of Terral will have a City Wide Clean Up on April 20-21st., Friday and Saturday. Roll offs will be placed on the corner of E. Apache & N. Fourth on Friday Morning April 20th. Anyone who pays a trash bill monthly is welcome to use the roll offs. Let’s take pride in our town and use this time to clean up.

TERRAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION Attention to all students: It is time to apply for Terral Alumni Scholarships. The following are eligible to apply: 1) Have graduated or will be graduating from Ryan High School. 2) Are attending or will be attending an accredited institution of higher learning full time, 12 hours per semester. 3) Reside in the Terral, Oklahoma district. Terral Alumni Association does not discriminate in its scholarship program on the basis of race. The committee will be making the final decision for the scholarships in April. The applicant receiving this scholarship must be enrolled and confirmed by the institution’s registrar before the check is mailed directly to the institution in the fall and in the spring. There will be a Memorial Day service at the Grady Cemetery on Monday May 28th at 10:00 am.
Following the service there will be a meal at the Grady Community Center.
The speaker will be Retired Sergeant First Class, Jeremie Gray Wilson. Jeremie spent 20 years (1991-2011) in the US Army retiring in December 2011. While enlisted he served in multiple Combat Zones. His tour of duties where served in Bosnia, Tunisia, Iraq (twice), Kuwait, Korea, and Germany. His Military Occupational Specialties (MOS’s) were 14S Avenger Air Defense Crew Member, 68DN2 Aircraft Powertrain Mechanic/Non Destructive Tester, 79S Career Counselor.
In 2005 he began his career in Law Enforcement as a Reserve Deputy for Cotton County.
In 2009 he became a deputy for Jefferson County.
In 2011 he transferred to the City of Waurika and served as a Reserve Police Officer.
In 2017 he was elected as sheriff of Jefferson County.
He is the husband of Cari Wilson, a father of four children: Jessie, Jordan, Cecillia and Nicholas Wilson.
His hobbies consist of team roping, riding motorcycles with his wife, and playing music in his church.
Ryan students recently held their annual Beta Club banquet.
During the ceremony new members were inducted, and others, including seniors were recognized.

The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is working with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in a nationwide campaign to educate Americans about the dangers of radon exposure and to encourage citizens to take action to protect their homes and families. HUD has designated June asNational Healthy Homes Month, and this year’s theme “Check Your Home; Protect Your Family” was chosen to create awareness of what it means to have a healthy home.
Radon is a naturally occurring, invisible, odorless, tasteless gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium inside the earth. Radon is dispersed in outdoor air but can reach harmful levels when trapped in buildings. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that radon is responsible for more than 20,000 lung cancer deaths per year. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. after smoking and the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.

June 12, 2018 ─ Oklahoma Blood Institute has an exciting new adventure in store for donors who give blood to help patients in local hospitals!
Oklahoma Blood Institute will hold a blood drive with First National Bank – Ringling Branch on Monday, June 25 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at 125 Main St in Ringling. Donors will receive a limited edition “Let the Adventure Begin” t-shirt, and a voucher for free admission to Science Museum Oklahoma for one adult and one child.*
Oklahoma Blood Institute is proud to team up with Science Museum Oklahoma, recently recognized by USA Today as being home to a must-see museum exhibit for summer 2018 — “Into the Fold: The Art and Science of Origami.” Science Museum Oklahoma offers hundreds of hands-on exhibits, daily live chemistry and physics shows, art galleries, the chance to explore the stars in the Kirkpatrick Planetarium and much more in the museum’s 350,000 square feet.
“We are thrilled to partner with Oklahoma Blood Institute and support their life-saving work,” said Linda Maisch, vice president for community engagement at Science Museum Oklahoma. “The summer months are not only a critical time for blood donation, but also a wonderful time to explore the wonders of science at SMO. We look forward to welcoming Oklahoma Blood Institute donors from around the state and region.”
Only ten percent of people in the United States who are eligible to give blood actually do. Blood donation takes just about an hour, and each donation can save the lives of up to three patients.
Donors also receive free health screenings. If they opt not to take the t-shirt, Oklahoma Blood Institute will make a monetary donation to Global Blood Fund for blood center assistance in developing countries.
As a non-profit blood center, Oklahoma Blood Institute’s donors provide every drop of blood needed for patients in more than 160 hospitals, medical facilities and air ambulances statewide. Approximately 1,200 volunteer blood donors are needed each day to maintain the supply.
