The Jefferson County 4H Shooting Sports Team went to compete in Fairview in preparation for state in January.
They will be starting a new air rifle team as well as a .22 rifle team in February for ages 9 and up.

Celebrate Christmas on the Trail in Ryan
Make plans now to be a part of Christmas on the Trail in Ryan on December 1st.
There will be multiple FREE drawings throughout the day. However, you must be present to win.
School kids will bring their decorated ornaments to place on the Downtown Christmas Tree between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
There will be pony rides, wagon rides, hot chocolate, face painting, vendors, a cake walk.
As a special bonus, the 2 Cajons food truck will be there as well.

Round Ryan May 17 2018
It’s been a great week, but, this is the first week that we’ve not been blessed with a bit of rain. Maybe this week, we will have a better opportunity for some, if the Lord is willing. The days are now nearly constant for highs in the 90s. I try to get any outdoor work that needs to be taken care of done early in the mornings. It doesn’t take long for our seasons to pass, anymore.
This past week has been a busy week for most folks around Ryan. Brionna and I went up to Waurika to Doc’s Place to eat dinner Thursday evening. Brionna had fried shrimp and I had a grilled pork chop with peach chutney. It was a very good meal.
Saturday evening, we attended the Ryan graduation ceremony/ I was surprised that they didn’t have a guest speaker, but, they don’t always have 2 Valedictorians and 2 Salutatorians either. Take Kimbro and McKenzie Lewis shared the spots for the Valedictorian of the class, and Dawson Tomberlin and Cara Williams, shared the spots for the Salutatorian. Each one of them gave a speech. Cara Williams, along with her speech, played her guitar and sang a song. She is very talented young lady. Congratulations to all of the Ryan graduates. Good luck to all of you and God be with you all.
Sunday was Mother’s Day and Brionna and I made it to church. Edna had commented in Sunday School, that she hoped someone from her family would be there at church with her. She did indeed have both Natalie and Leslie with her husband, David. After church, I decided not to go home to cook for use, but, instead, headed to eat out at Bill’s. It seemed like we had to park about a half mile away from the restaurant, but, they were packed. We stood outside for a while, then went inside the entryway and stood for another while. I saw Ramona Bryant and got to talk to her for a little while. She is living in Duncan at an independent living facility that is only about a year old. She really does like it where she is. We also ran into Joyce and Lynn Plant while we were standing outside. They had their kids and some of their families there, too. We finally got to sit on the benches and visit for a little bit. I told Joyce that you have to be really hungry for Bill’s fish to have to wait for as long as we did. Our final wait was about an hour and a half. It was all worth it, though. The fish and hush puppies and the cole slaw, were all delicious. Then, to top off our meal, they brought all the mothers out a chocolate covered strawberry for dessert. I imagine most restaurants were pretty crowded with families, trying to get Moms out of the kitchens.
We didn’t get over to see Mom as I had originally planned. I had a cold and didn’t want to get around Mom or the other residents in the home. I called her and wished her a Happy Mother’s Day, though. My brother, Mel, took her out to eat there in Nocona at Del Rios. He said she really enjoyed her outing.
Our kids will be having their last day of school this Friday. Ya’ll have a great summer!
Kim’s news for this week:
This week I was not alone, my friend, Brionna, was home. She went with Foxy and me to see Ruffy Tuffy. That wasn’t all–me, Foxy, and her played ball.
Ruffy Tuffy got hurt in his stall, but, he’ll be okay after all.
Everyone have a blessed week. Pray for rain and for each other.

Cindy’s Culinary Corner
This week’s recipe is perfect for summer get togethers. Don’t let all the ingredients and steps scare you. It really is very simple. I find it easier to use an electric knife to slice into small appetizer sandwiches. When sliced there should be a pickle slice in each sandwhich. Your appetizer will be the hit of the get together!
Stuffed Bread Appetizers
2 pkgs. (one 8 oz, one 3 oz) cream cheese, softened.
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup chopped sweet red pepper
1/2 cup chopped water chestnuts
1 tsp. Garlic salt
1 loaf (26 in) French bread (halved lengthwise)
Mayonnaise
Dried Parsley flakes
4 Dill pickle spears
4 slices deli ham
1. In a large bowl, combine the first 6 ingredients; set aside.
2. Hollow out top and bottom of bread, leaving 1/2 inch shell (discard removed bread or save for another use). Spread thin layer of mayo over bread and sprinkle with the parsley.
3. Fill each half with cheese mixture. Wrap pickle spears in ham; place lengthwise over cheese mixture on bottom half of loaf. Replace top; press to seal together.
4. Wrap in foil. Refrigerate overnight. Just before serving, cut into 1 inch slices.
Yields: About 2 dozen.
Rex Dunn Inducted into the Bull Riding Hall of Fame
This past weekend, the Dunn family gathered in Ft. Worth, Texas to participate in a special ceremony inducting Rex Dunn, “Mr. Smooth” into the Bull Riding Hall of fame.
Rex was a world famous rodeo clown and bull fighter from Hastings, Oklahoma.
He has been inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, Western Heritage Hall of Fame, Wrangler Bull fight Hall of fame and now the Bull Riding Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Waurika Girls Cross Country Squad Qualifies for State Meet
The Waurika girls cross country team has overcome a number of obstacles during the 2022 season.
For most of the season, the Lady Eagles did not have enough participants to qualify for the team race in the majority of meets they participated in.
But, in the last few weeks, the Lady Eagles have had additional participants that have enabled them to be part of the team standings.
While still battling some illness, the Lady Eagles managed to finish seventh in last Saturday’s Class 2A Regional Cross Country Meet and that put the Lady Eagles into Saturday’s state championship meet.
The Class 2A State Cross Country Meet will be Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe High School. All classes will be held at the same location.
The Class 2A races will begin with the girls at 11:45 a.m., while the Class 2A boys will race at 12:15 p.m. An awards ceremony for Class 2A will follow at 1 p.m.
The top three teams will be awarded medals and 15 medals will be awarded to the top individual finishers.
Lucas Boyd, who has had an outstanding freshman season for the Eagles, qualified for the state meet as an individual and will be competing Saturday as well as the Lady Eagle team.
The Lady Eagles finished with 181 points – which trailed sixth-place Hobart that finished with 172 points. Riverside won the team title with 55 points.
Aubree Showalter, who has competed for the Lady Eagles in recent weeks, missed the meet due to illness and that meant other runners had to step up to enable Waurika to qualify for the state meet.
Waurika’s Jaci Gholson led the way for the Lady Eagles as she finished sixth in the meet with a time of 13:42.04 – which is her top time of the 2022 season.
The Waurika junior has had an outstanding season and she received a silver medal for her performance in the regional meet on the Lady Eagles’ home course – Harmon Park.
Also playing a key role in the Lady Eagles qualifying for the state meet were Harleigh Loftis, Liberti Simmons, Jaden Adams, Niecsa Camarillo and Jasmine Henry.
Loftis finished 67th in the race with a time of 16;24.74, while Simmons was 71st with a clocking of 16:34.71. Adams was 87th with a time of 17:32.15 and Camarillo finished 109th with a time of 20:16.18. Henry was 118th recorded a time of 23:05.23.
The top five finishers from each school figure into the team standings.
A total of 126 runners competed in the Class 2A girls’ race.
Boyd finished 11th in the boys’ competition and he was the fourth best individual that was not part of the team competition and the top seven individuals not on a team qualify for the state meet.
Boyd earned a bronze medal with his time of 19:28.45.
Alex Gomez and Trent Arellano also ran in the regional for the Eagles.
Gomez finished 17th with a time of 19:39.67 – just two seconds behind the last individual qualifier for the state meet.
Arellano turned in a time of 23:25.29 and that was good for 80th place among the 112 runners in the Class 2A race.
Class 2A had considerably more participants than the Class 3A and Class 4A races.

Three Crosses
